Call for votes December 11, 2023

Dear Friends of Los Ranchos,

As you know our newly elected mayor Joe Craig has resigned as president of Friends of Los Ranchos to avoid a conflict of interest.  He will be officially sworn in on Jan. 3rd.  We thank Joe for the pioneering and amazing work he has done to Keep Los Ranchos semi-rural.  Some of that work was finding  and helping fund properties for the Village to buy for open space and the agri-nature center and much more.

As part of the transition team, we are proud to nominate two highly qualified candidates, Marsha Adams who has agreed to step in as President and Marcia Smiley who has agreed to serve as Vice President of Friends of Los Ranchos.   Each brings needed experience and a deep commitment to keeping our Village semi-rural.

Here is a little information about each candidate.  I urge you to vote to support them. Please get back to me with your decision as soon as possible.

Marsha Adams  (candidate for President of FOLR)

Roots in Santa Fe and longtime resident of Los Ranchos. Experience in Real Estate (Sotheby’s).  Knowledgeable about legal and historical property connections.  Excellent communication and writing skills. Knows numerous members of our community and has served on committees to Keep Los Ranchos Rural. Great with people.  Affiliated with the Los Ranchos Historical Society.  She lives with her daughter who has an MA in communication.  They are both involved in equestrian events and care deeply about habitat, open spaces, agriculture and much more. She hosted a well-attended event for the FOLR endorsed candidates for mayor and trustees. Helped raise funds to Keep Los Ranchos Rural. Good organizer and strong advocate for keeping our Village semi-rural.

Marcia Smiley

Long time Village resident that has 3 adult children.  She is an excellent organizer and campaigner and was instrumental in getting our new mayor elected.  Was actively involved in grass roots organizing to Keep Los Ranchos Rural.  Knowledgeable about the Village and connected with many people.  Good at fund raising. She lives across the street from Jim Long’s property on Chavez and Guadalupe and has been a tireless advocate speaking out against developing the acreage that has been wildlife habitat and home to migratory sandhill cranes. She is an excellent and thoughtful writer and negotiator.

Thank you for the work you continue to do on behalf of FOLR and our Village.  Please feel free to call or text if you have any questions.

Wishing you Kindness,

Gordene MacKenzie -(phone number redacted)
